Gilbert Lucien Gaboury

Sept. 2, 1931 - Jan. 28, 2009

Gilbert Lucien Gaboury made his transition on January 28, 2009. He had a malignant brain tumor.

Gil was born in Detroit, Michigan to parents Armand and Pauline (Raiche) Gaboury.

He is survived by his wife and best friend Glenyce O'Connor.

Gil and Glenyce were married in 1975. Their marriage joined two families of children; Suzanne, Cherie (Paul), Andrea (Brian), Karen, Clayton (Jenny), Curtis and Dennis (Martha). They have six grandchildren.

Gil retired from the United States Postal Service in Royal Oak, MI after 42 years of service. He is a current member of the American Postal Workers Union.

He had many buddies, but one special friend, (TC) Tim Carleton. Tim is a caring and compassionate man; Gil enjoyed his telephone calls.

In January 1997, Gil and Glenyce sold their home and went on the open road in their Winnebago. Winters were spent in Lake Havasu City, AZ at the Islander RV Resort with many incredible friends. Summers from 2002 until 2006 were spent managing the Alder Creek Campground in Truckee, CA. It was like an extended family, the co-workers and campers with their warmth and lasting friendships.

On October 13, 2006 Gil and Glenyce moved to Bend, OR. This was the first permanent home for them since leaving Michigan in 1997. They loved Bend and have made many new, caring friends.

Gil was a member of the Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars for 25 years in Michigan, Lake Havasu and Bend. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict at Site 18 with the Aircraft Control and Warning Squadrons on Hokkaido in Northern Japan.

Cesar, Gil's Shih Tzu puppy will miss him. The past was wonderful and complete for Gil and Glenyce. At the family's request, there will be no service.

Cremation is handled by Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home (382-2471) and the obituary may be viewed at niswonger-reynolds.com.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gil's name to Partners in Care (Hospice) at 2075 NE Wyatt Court, Bend, OR 97701.
