Details: A new 10,500-square-foot, stand-alone building will house the first Orvis store in Oregon in The Old Mill District in Bend.

The store is expected to open in September.

Orvis, based in Manchester, Vt., is perhaps best known for its fly-fishing gear, but it also sells men’s and women’s clothing, home furnishings, luggage, hunting gear, dog gear and gifts.

The company has 37 stores nationwide, according to its Web site.

Noelle Fredland, marketing director for The Old Mill District and a former Orvis employee, expects the store will dedicate 30 percent of its retail space to fishing displays.

Fredland said the store also will have a travel department that will allow customers to book Orvis-sponsored trips and a referral service that will pair customers with local Orvis-certified, fly-fishing guides.

The building is the last to be erected in the shopping district’s second phase, according to Fredland. There is room for additional expansion of the shopping district, but no further additions are currently planned, she said.
