Melvin Cooper, of Bend, died Monday. He was 53.
A memorial service will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at New Hope Church in Bend.
Mr. Cooper was born May 1, 1954, in Monroe, La., the son of Dee and Helen Jo Cooper. He graduated from high school in Oakland, Calif. He married Sandy Cooper.
Mr. Cooper served in the U.S. Army during Operation Desert Storm. He was honorably discharged. He worked as a merchandise handler in the grocery business. He enjoyed car rides, fishing and collecting toy cars.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years; two sons, Wyzeas and Josiah, both of Bend; three brothers, Job, Leroy and Clarence; a foster brother, Ronnie; and four sisters, Geraldine, Catherine, Henrietta and Maria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his foster parents, four brothers and a sister.
