"Weekend Rock: Oregon" is ideal for beginning and intermediate climbers who want to put some variety into their climbing weekends.

Written by Ron Horton, "Weekend Rock: Oregon" is dedicated to moderate sport and traditional routes throughout the state. Featured climbing destinations include Smith Rock, the Portland area, Mount Hood, Eugene, The Callahans, Umpqua National Forest, Ashland and Eastern Oregon.

"It focuses on a wide array of climbs in a multitude of areas around the state," Horton explains. "While it is by no means a comprehensive guide to climbing in Oregon, it does provide enough detail and description to help climbers navigate a path through some of the state's most beautiful areas as they climb both classic and lesser-known moderate routes along the way ... With the state's variety and diversity, 'Weekend Rock: Oregon' includes a little something for everyone to enjoy."

Climbs in the book range from a few minutes to a full day.

Horton, a veteran rock climber with 12 years of experience, has climbed at more than 75 areas in 15 states. He is the author of "Awesome Athletes" and "Extreme Athletes," both children's books. He lives in Portland.

Published by The Mountaineers Books, "Weekend Rock: Oregon" is a 256-page softcover. It contains 112 black-and-white photos, including 62 with route overlays, and retails for $19.95.
