John Gottberg Anderson (Freelance travel, dining and wine writer)
John Gottberg Anderson writes about travel, dining and wine for The Bulletin. A graduate of the universities of Oregon and Washington, he has lived and worked all over the world. Prior to settling in Bend in 2004, he was travel news editor for The Los Angeles Times, senior editor for the Paris-based Michelin Guides and managing editor of the Singapore-based Insight Guides. He also has been employed as a cook, server, bartender, musician, ski instructor, carpenter, sheep shearer and door-to-door salesman. Anderson has written or co-authored 19 books. Two of his self-illustrated stories published in The Bulletin in 2015 and 2016 were chosen by the North American Travel Journalists Association as the best in any U.S. newspaper in those years.
